Background Info:



Tyto was found as a stray and taken to the city shelter by an animal control officer. He was never claimed. We don't have any info regarding his background and upbringing.

Health Condition:

Sadly, this adorable smoosh-face tested positive for Heartworm disease. Treatment has begun and Tyto should be fully recovered by the end of winter. He can still be adopted during his treatment, under certain conditions. Treatment is already paid for and will require no expense for potential adopters other than a heartworm test next spring.

Physical Description:

It's hard to tell exactly what breed or mix Tyto is. But lets face it, he looks like a gargoyle. An ADORABLE gargoyle, mind you,



He looks like a miniature French Mastiff (or Dogue De Bordeaux). He's about the size of a small Boxer, though a little stockier. His tail was docked. He has a Boxer face but his ears were cropped "Pit Bull" style. Tyto is definitely a Bully-breed of some sort, but we can't tell exactly what breeds were involved in his genetic make-up. What we do know is that his smoosh face is totally irresistible. We bet he snores loud 😄



Current Living Situation:

Tyto is currently staying at MPR shelter, doing his best to keep his chin up. He is scared of the shelter environment but doing a little better everyday. Shelter life is definitely not his cup-of-tea, so we hope he won't have to wait too long until someone gives him a chance.



Personality:

Sweet, timid, needy. Tyto craves love and reassurance and is even a little clingy right now. He's desperate for affection and attention and tries to get as close to people as he can. He's only been with us a few days so we don't know if he will build-up confidence and develop a little more autonomy, but as of now, he's pretty desperate of any loving touch he can get.

Tyto has to be kept quiet during his heartworm treatment so we cant really assess his level of energy for the moment. Keeping him calm is easy though. All he wants to do is sit next to you, cuddle, and soak up love.

Tyto is more on the submissive side and has a reserved, yet loving personality.

Overall, he seems very easy to handle and to please.

Behavior with people:

Timid but very eager to be loved. Tyto is needy and wants to be as close to his loved-ones as he possibly can. He lacks self-confidence so might not be the best guard dog. He's the one who wants to be protected.



Behavior with children:

Unknown. Because he has a sensitive soul, we will not place Tyto in a home with toddlers.



Behavior with other dogs:

Tyto had a short introduction to other dogs during his brief stay at the city pound. He was uncomfortable, especially with other males or rambunctious dogs. It's possible that with the right introduction period and good monitoring, Tyto could live in a home with a compatible female.
