Background Info:

Skipper lost his home recently due to issues with the landlord. His family surrendered him to the city pound. We were told about his story and welcomed him to our program in hopes of finding him a home that will never leave him behind again. Health Condition:
Skipper is healthy and ready for adoption.

Physical Description:
Skipper is a chubby boy with a huge head and big expressive eyes. This guy is funny-looking and great-looking at the same time. He's a bit of a low-rider, but quite stocky. He has a nice black and white coat.

Living Situation:
Skipper is doing the best he can to adapt to life at MPR shelter but he's not too thrilled. He was a family companion before coming into our program and its obvious he misses those days very much. He is quiet in his kennel and keeps it clean, but you can tell that he would much rather be in a home than in a shelter with homeless dogs.

Skipper is scared to use his doggy door to relieve himself in the outside run but he doesn't have any accidents inside. He waits until his turn in the yard.

Skipper is not reactive of the dogs that walk by his kennel and he ignores the dogs in their kennels when he goes in and out of his.

Personality:
We know there is a silly, happy goofball in there who loves to do butt-runs and zoomies, but shelter life is affecting his spirit. We have seen the happy face and joyful heart but we are worried that Skipper's stay at the shelter will quickly take a toll. He definitely perks up when he's in the playroom with a volunteer and has shown a more energetic side.

When they brought him to the pound, his previous family said that Skipper was an outgoing dog who loved to play with children. He liked squeaky toys but they did not last long. He liked to wrestle with people and was an all around great family companion.

Though he was kept mostly outdoors, Skipper liked to sneak into the boys room and snuggle with them, even though he was not allowed on the bed.

Behavior with people:
Friendly but unsure of some. He wants to be friends but waits for the right cues. His previous family informed us that when visitors entered their home, Skipper greeted them politely and solicited affection. He was especially fond of children.

Behavior with children:
Skipper hasn't been around children since being with us but we know he spent a few weeks in a foster home with kids while he waited for a spot in our program. We were told he did great with the children and enjoyed their company.

Prior to this, Skipper lived with a family of 5 for the majority of his life. The children were an eight-year-old girl, a ten-year-old boy and an eleven-year-old boy. He had a good relationship with the family and he was especially close with the ten-year-old boy. He liked to be petted and allowed all handling.

Behavior with other dogs:
Skipper hasn't been introduced to other dogs since his arrival in our program but again, we were told he was briefly fostered in a home with other dogs and did well with everyone. He was also introduced to other dogs while at the pound and did great there as well. His previous family said he was never around other dogs growing up.

We think Skipper could share a home with a compatible female with proper introduction and diligent supervision. He wouldn't mind being an only pet however, since this is what he is used to.

Behavior with other animals:
Same as above. No cat-exposure since being with us, but he shared a foster home with a cat and no incidents were reported. He could possibly be adopted to a home with cats if the owners are Terrier-savvy and know how to properly introduce the pets and supervise.

He will chase squirrels in the yard.

Training:
Skipper was described by his previous family as being mostly housebroken, with occasional accidents in the house when he was excited. Since he's been with MPR, we haven't had any issues.

We were told that when on walks, he pulls hard on the leash and he might jump on people he meets to solicit attention.

In his previous home, Skipper slept in a crate in the backyard at night. In cold weather he slept in a crate in the house. He was comfortable in his crate and usually went in the crate willingly. He was not allowed on furniture.

Best Attribute:
Skipper not only looks like an adorable comedy act but he seems to have wonderful potential as family companion. A happy little clown who currently has a broken heart. We can only hope he won't have to wait too long for his next chance. We can't wait to see a constant smile in his silly face again.
