Puffin

Aquarelle icon.jpg
Resembling the penguins, Puffins stay together for life, without any pretense, which is an emblem of faithfulness. One of the things that makes Puffins stand out in the Spirit Animal world is their commitment to family.

Background Info:

This sweet boy was brought to the city shelter after being found as a stray. We don’t know anything about his past, or how anyone could ever look away from his precious face! Whatever he’s been through, we promised Puffin to find him a furever family who will cherish him the way he deserves.

Adoption Fee: $150
Breed: Pit Bull mix
Sex: Male
Age: 1-3 yo
Weight: 55-65 lbs
Health Condition:

Puffin’s coat had seen better days when he first came to MPR, but with some TLC, his beauty now matches his inside. He's healthy and ready for adoption.

Physical Description:

This precious boy is compact and well proportioned. Mostly white with some cute black markings that kind of resemble a cow. On his face he has one black ear, a black patch around his left eye, a black button nose with an adorable half ‘mustache’ trailing underneath. His eyes are like deep pools you can easily get lost in.

Current Living Situation:

Puffin temporarily lives in a single-family foster home with a fenced yard. He shares his home with two human adults, as well as an older and disable female bully.

Crate training is in progress for Puffin. Foster mom says he may whine for a couple of minutes at first, but then settles down. He gets crated when home alone, which doesn’t happen often since both foster parents work from home.

Personality:

An outgoing, goofy puppy who loves to play, but has an even temperament. He is assertive, yet eager to please.

Behavior with people:

Puffin is friendly with everyone and loves being near people at all times. In fact, he’s a bit of a shadow dog. He’ll accompany you wherever you go. No more lonely trip to the bathroom!

He can be fast asleep, but as soon as someone gets up, he wants to supervise their whereabouts and make sure he doesn't miss out on any entertainment, attention or fun-time.

Behavior with children:

Unknown. Puffin hasn't met any kinds since being in our program. As of now, he's given us no reason to believe he could not share a home with older children.

Behavior with other dogs:

After proper introductions, Puffin gets along with the resident handicapped female in the house and is learning her capabilities. He wants to play rough but he seems to be learning her limits. Puffin would do well as an only pet but may also be able to live with a compatible dog that matches is play style and energy level, under the right supervision.

Behavior with other animals:

So far, he doesn’t seem too interested in other animals. His foster parents say if he sees squirrels, he doesn’t want to chase them, and he actually looses interest pretty quickly. Their home is in an area with lots of critters and Puffin doesn’t pay them much attention.

Training:

Puffin’s foster parents say that he seems mostly house broken. He’s good about telling them when he needs to go. They are working on appropriate chewing behavior since he’s still got a bit of puppy in him and wants to chew things he shouldn’t. AKA, don’t leave your favorite shoes out around this boy 😊 He’s a work in progress! Puffin is described as your typical stubborn bully, but he seems eager to learn.

Best Attribute:

Puffin is a very sweet and friendly guy who loves people. He would be a great match for an active and energetic family.
