Princess Iris
The main character of LoliRock, Iris is the Princess of Ephedia who fights for justice and peace.
Background Info:
Princess Iris was found as a stray, taken to the pound and surprisingly never claimed. Perhaps her medical condition rendered her useless as a breeding prospect. Her name came to mind because of her incredible eyes.
Health Condition:
Iris suffered from vaginal hyperplasia when she arrived to the city pound. This condition is associated with the estrus or heat cycle. Iris was immediately spayed and received a few stitches to put the extra tissue back inside. She has fully recovered and the prognostic is positive since she won’t go into heat anymore.
Physical Description:
Exquisite beauty! Iris resemble a small size Dogo Argentino. She might not be full grown but will likely be smaller than a typical Dogo. Her crystal blue eyes are amazing, and she has the cutest pink snout. A few merle patches and a medium length tail complete her incredibly unique looks.
Current Living Situation:
Iris is fostered in a home with two human adults and 5 older dogs of different breeds and sizes. There is a medium size yard with a tall chain link fence in her foster home. Caretakers work from home, so Iris is rarely left alone. She is crated when no one is home but sleeps loose in the house, though she often goes in a crate on her own when she wants to relax. Her foster family reports no issues what’s so ever, other than her typical juvenile energy that's a bit irritating to the senior dogs.
Personality:
She's a fun-loving princess, outgoing and friendly and always in a good mood. Iris is energetic and athletic but knows how to chill too.
Iris loves to play and have fun and would do well with an active family.
Iris is smart and alert. She will bark if something catches her attention around the house but has an overall friendly disposition.
Behavior with people:
Iris has a lovely personality and if very fond of people. She loves to play but is also very affectionate and cuddly. She enjoys attention but will find things to entertain herself if her loved-ones are busy.
Behavior with children:
Unknown. There are no children living in or visiting her foster home. While Iris has a sweet and playful temperament, her greetings can be a little excitable. She might do better in a home with older children.
Behavior with other dogs:
Though she shares her foster home with 5 other dogs, Iris is kept separate from most of them simply due to her energy level being irritating to the older dogs. The dogs range from 8 to 13 years old and are set in their ways. Iris has not shown any aggression towards the dogs but her playfulness is a bit much for them. For their sake, she is kept separate unless the foster parents are right there to ensure strict supervision and keep her from annoying the senior dogs.
We believe Iris would be compatible to a younger male who would appreciate her playful nature and happy drive.
Please note that Iris is confident and assertive. She doesn't always take no for an answer when it comes to other dogs and will not back down if challenged. Her spirited play-style could trigger a correction from another dog and cause conflicts, hence why supervision and a compatible partner is a must.
Behavior with other animals:
There are no cats in Iris' foster home, but the yard is adjacent to a few free-ranging chickens. Iris was very curious of them at first but is now ignoring their presence for the most part. She occasionally acknowledges them with a few play bows, which the chickens find hilarious ;-) While she is able to live next to chickens while contained she has shown some prey drive. We believe she would happily give chase given the opportunity.
Training:
Iris hasn't had any accident in the house or in her crate. She is let out several times a day. She goes in her crate with no problem, following a treat. She is quiet in her crate unless she's the only one in there and the other dogs are out. She might whine a little.
Iris is smart and responsive. She is treat motivated and eager to please. An all-around well-behaved and very pleasant young adult who still has some maturing to do. She is full of potential and her temperament is proving to be as endearing as her exceptional appearance. This dog is a gem!
