Marmoset
Marmosets are highly active monkeys native to South America. The monkey spirit animal is related to playfulness, humor, light-heartedness, and joy.
Background Info:
This funny-looking, silly-acting little monkey-face arrived to the city shelter as a stray and was never claimed. We have no idea how she ended up homeless and don't have any information regarding her background and upbringing.
Adoption Fee: $125

Age: 1-3 yo

Health Condition:
Marmoset is healthy and ready for adoption.
Physical Description:
Look at the silly monkey face! This fun-loving gal sure is too cute for words. Marmoset has a compact, muscular build and she is average size, perhaps a bit on the small side. Her deep red and brown coat is soft and velvety, and that wrinkly smoosh face is to die for.
Current Living Situation:
Marmoset is fostered in a home with two adults and a middle aged male dog. She has supervised access to a fully fenced large yard. Marmoset is set up in the home's office, which is where she hangs out and sleeps. She gets 1-2 walks a day.
Personality:
A goofball with a big personality! Foster mom tells us that Marmy settled very promptly in her foster home and quickly gained a ton of confidence. She's more curious than timid, and she loves exploring the yard. Marmoset enjoys a good round of zoomies and is hilarious about it. While she has a high energy level, its been easy to manage with daily walks, training, chews, etc. She loves attention and being around her people, but she's also very content and quiet when left alone in her room.
Behavior with people:
She sooooo wants to make friends but can be hesitant with strangers. For the most part though, she loves being with people and has a very sweet and engaging personality. She is rather fond of people and very eager to connect. Her fears are mostly related to objects - loud noises and certain movements she perceives as threatening, etc.
While Marmoset took to foster mom right away, she needed about a day to warm up to her fiancé when she first arrived in foster care. She absolutely adores him now. She also recently met their neighbor on a walk and ran right up to him asking for pets. We believe that as she continues to build her confidence, she'll be pretty outgoing with everyone.
Behavior with children:
Unknown. She has not been around kids since being in our program. She can be easily excitable and still needs to work on some manners when it comes to jumping, nipping, and pawing. While she's been making improvements, she might not be the best candidate for a home with small children. In addition, due to her sensitive nature to loud noises and quick movements, we will not place her in a home with toddlers. Mature and respectful children that know how to behave around a timid, yet energetic dog might be an option. Marmoset is a friendly dog who only wants to have fun but her apprehension in certain situations needs to be taken into consideration. Also, keep in mind that Marmoset tends to get overly excited when in a playful mode and occasionally jumps up on people. She can also be a little mouthy while she learns how to control her enthusiasm when greeting her loved-ones.
Behavior with other dogs:
Introductions to the other dog in her foster home are still ongoing and as of now, the dogs interactions are conflicted. The two go on walks together and have met through the gate and Marmoset seems ok under those circumstances. However, she's not too thrilled when the other dog starts acting playful or excited. She wants to "put him at his place" and can become overbearing. She definitely has a very dominant personality when it comes to other dogs and we believe she would be more successful in a home as an only pet.
Behavior with other animals:
No cats please! Marmoset has a high prey drive towards cats and squirrels on walks.
Training:
Marmoset is housebroken and has not had an accident inside. Foster mom works on training during meal time and she is very responsive and smart. Marmy catches on quickly to commands and has learned some basics so far (sit, down, stay). We believe she has great potential for obedience training due to her sharp mind and alertness.
Best Attributes:
Marmoset's big personality! She's a very endearing dog. She's goofy, playful, sweet, smart, responsive, and easy. She's an absolute doll and so easy to fall in love with! This adorable dog is indeed full of potential and we have no doubt she will soon be a great family companion who will enjoy being involved in all the fun with everyone.
