Background Info:

Lua and another dog were roaming the streets unattended for, when they got involved in an incident. The dogs greeted kids coming out of a school bus and one of them jumped up on a child in excitement, causing a slight scratch. We do not know which dog it was, but the other one was definitely more rambunctious than Lua is, so we suspect him. Both dogs were confiscated by animal control.

Physical Description:

Stunning! Possibly a Pit Bull mix, Catahoula Bulldog type. Lua looks like a show dog, though a merle coat is usually considered a defect and therefor disqualified. She might never compete at the Westminster dog show, but she sure could be a super model for doggy Vogue.

Lua is medium-sized, stocky, big-boned and a little larger than average. She has a beautiful head and her ears were cropped evenly. Her amber eyes are captivating but the most amazing feature is her unusual golden merle coat.



Current Living Situation:

Lua is being a good girl at MPR shelter. No trouble at all. She is quiet for the most part, but might bark a little if something piques her interest. She uses her doggy door to do her business outside if needed, and hasn't been destructive of her bedding. Lua is a good girl who's quickly become a volunteer favorite.



Personality:

This dog has it all. As if her dazzling beauty wasn't enough, she is just as precious on the inside. She's a doll. Loving, easy-going, happy-go-lucky. A little insecure at times, but decompressing fast. Her level of energy is moderate to low. Though we haven't known her for a long time yet, she seems docile and eager to please.

Behavior with people:

Very friendly and affectionate. Lua is definitely a people-dog and a charming flirt.



Behavior with children:

Unknown. We were told that she and another dog were involved in an incident with a child. Several kids were coming out of a school bus and one of them suffered a minor scratch as a result of one of the dogs jumping up on him. The kids were not able to identify which dog jumped on them.



While Lua hasn't given us any reason to believe she would not do well in a home with children, we want parents to be aware of the incident above. As of now, the disposition she is showing us doesn't raise any red flag and she seems like the type who would do well in a home with respectful children.



Behavior with other dogs:

We were told that during her short stay at the city pound, Lua met several dogs and did well. We haven't seen her interact with other dogs since being with us. We believe a home with a compatible male might be an option for her, provided the owner understands the breed well, knows how to do proper introductions, and supervises the dogs well. Lua is a powerful dog and we want to make sure she is not set up to fail.

Training:

Our volunteers have started basic training with Lua. She is smart, responsive and eager to please. We don't know if she is crate trained. She is not having accidents inside and seems to know to go outside for her business.

Additional Info:

This stunning dog is a head turner and we want to make sure she will be adopted by a responsible family. While she might look intimating with her cropped ears and unusual coat pattern, she is too sweet and friendly to be a guard dog. She's the one who needs to be guarded against individuals with bad intentions.
