The Leroux surname derives from the Old French word "rous," meaning "red," or "red-haired;" and as such was a nickname for someone with red hair, or perhaps for a person with a ruddy or reddish complexion.
Leroux came in as a stray from animal control. He was microchipped and his previous family was located. Leroux's owners purchased him at Petland as a puppy and claimed to no longer have time for him so they did not take him back. MPR was asked to consider him for our program even though he is not a Pit Bull because Leroux needs to be an only pet. Health Condition:
Leroux is healthy and ready for adoption.
Leroux is on the small size for a French Mastiff, but larger than a Pit Bull. He might still have a little growing up to do but not much. Leroux is drop-dead gorgeous, has a beautiful & healthy red coat, and a great conformation.
Leroux is currently staying at the MPR shelter. He is being a well-behaved and easy guest. Quiet and patient in his kennel and keeping it clean and neat. He's not giving the volunteers any trouble and we all very much enjoy this unusual visitor.
Bordeauxs are said to have a good and calm temperament. They are described as loyal, patient and devoted to their family. They can be protective and require responsible ownership.
Leroux's energy is pretty typical to a Mastiff. Low-key and easy-going. Chilling next to his loved-ones is his favorite activity.
Behavior with people:
Leroux is young and a little insecure but nothing worrisome. The breed is known to be reserved with strangers. Overall, Leroux is a loving dog who acts like a big baby most of the time. He loves to roll on his back for belly rubs.
Behavior with children:
Unknown. We have seen him around a young teenager and he was fine, although a little sensitive and anxious. He might prefer a laid-back household to a very active family. He can be a little uneasy when he is unsure of his environment or exposed to loud noises, etc. We prefer a home with older, calm and respectful kids for him, or adults.
Behavior with other dogs:
MUST BE AN ONLY PET! We were told that introductions to other dogs while at the city pound were unsuccessful and asked that he be placed as an only pet. We don't want to stress him by forcing him to develop a relationship with other dogs or risk the safety of the dogs and people. He's very content not having to share the attention anyway.
Behavior with other animals:
MUST BE AN ONLY PET!
Leroux has little training but knows a few basic commands. He keeps his kennel clean at the shelter and doesn't destroy his bedding. The dog is naturally easy, polite and well-behaved.
Leroux is a big teddy-bear with a tender heart. He has the cutest face and comical expressions. There's a bit of a goofball in there but for the most he's just a big lovable sweetie.
