Adoption Fee: $ 200
Breed: Pit Bull mix
Sex: Female
Age: 6 to 10 mts
Weight: Growing
Health Condition:
Currently treating a UTI. Otherwise healthy and ready for adoption.

Physical Description:
Adorable blue brindle puppy. Guava has a slender but muscular build. She has an athletic stance and the prettiest amber eyes. Guava is not full grown yet but we don't anticipate her being very large when full grown.

Current Living Situation:
Guava is currently staying at MPR shelter. She's the only youngster at the shelter and trying hard to be a trooper, but kennel life is not the best environment for a puppy. She takes her ordeal in stride though, and keeps her chin up. She does fantastic in her kennel and uses her outside run to go potty if needed. She is not destructive of her bedding and prefers chewing on toys. She does get a little vocal when other dogs are out and she must wait for her turn, but nothing unexpected for a pup her age.

Personality:
Super outgoing! Guava is a bouncy, cheerful puppy and a real social butterfly. She is full of happy energy and lively drive. She's right at the age when puppies turn teenagers and are ready for all the fun adventures they can get.

Guava is not the right dog if you if you are looking for a lazy or passive companion. Our little miss sunshine is very much the life of the party and will do better with active owners where she can be in the middle of the action with everyone.

Guava loves walks and is great on a leash. She wants to be friends with every person and dog she passes but is easily diverted and continues on her way with little effort. She could possibly make a great running partner since she is athletic and energetic. She also likes car rides, and while she would love to ride on your lap if she could, she quickly settles into looking out the window.

She loves toys, playing fetch, and tug-of-war. She is not possessive of her toys but needs a little work with releasing on command. While Guava is playful and energetic, she also loves a good nap. She's actually a fan of napping with her head on the arm rest, especially if there is an arm there to snuggle.

Guava is a little bit vocal and will talk to you if she's sad, happy, intrigued, etc. Or she may bark at another dog outdoors if they are barking at her.

Guava is responsive for the most part, but she also has a funny little stubborn streak. As long as you let her know you're the leader, she is happy to follow direction.

Behavior with people:
Very friendly! She loves everyone and expects everyone to love her. Guava is not shy at all and believes every person she meets is her best friend forever. She wants to be able to give kisses to everyone. She will gently jump on people but gets down quickly on command and will typically just jump up one time. We are working on not jumping in general. Even though she is excited to meet you, she is mostly well behaved.

Behavior with children:
Guava was briefly fostered in a home with children and did awesome. Foster mom said that she loved her young children the same as adults. She was not nippy with the kids, but definitely "kissy". She enjoyed waking up the kids in the morning and motiving them to get ready for school.

While she might be a little too energetic to go in a home with babies or toddlers, we bet she would thrive in a home full of teenagers.

Behavior with other dogs:
Guava has done well with the dogs she has met so far, but her level of energy didn't mesh well with an elderly dog she was briefly fostered with. She might be compatible for a home with a young. playful and outgoing male, as long as he can tolerate her happy energy and enthusiasm for rough play. We suspect she has a bit of a dominant nature and should not be placed in a home with another female dog.

Behavior with other animals:
She is interested in other animals but is easily diverted.

Training:
Guava is one smart cookie! So much so that we enrolled her in obedience training and will update her bio as soon as we know more about her performance. We have big expectations because she is so motivated and driven.

Guava is crate trained and is happy to crash in her kennel at bedtime. She sleeps through the night without whining and has the cutest little snore. We recommend crating Guava when she's home alone as she is still a puppy and will develop better house skills if she is provided with the correct structure and supervision for a dog her age.

House breaking is in progress and going very well. She has the concept of pottying outside down. She just needs to learn how to ask for it when needed. We're getting there!

Additional Info:
Guava is such a personable puppy! Wherever she goes, everyone tells her how beautiful she is and she's got the best little high step when she's excited.

Please keep in mind that little Miss Guava is a teenager pup, and right at the age when dogs require a ton of patience, proper structure, thorough supervision and positive leadership. Please consider one of our adult dogs if you are not willing to put the time and effort into raising a puppy to become a well-behaved adult. Puppies are cute and fun, but they are not for everyone! Teenager puppies can be particularly challenging. Guava has been bounced around a few times already and we hope that she will soon find the right someone who will allow her to unpack her baggage, once and for all.
