Gizmo
A gizmo is a small device that performs a particular task, usually in a new and efficient way.
Background Info:
Last fall (2020), Gizmo and a similar dog (most likely his little sister), were confiscated from an abusive situation. Both of them were highly terrified, neglected, emaciated, infested with parasites and covered in wounds and scars. Gizmo was adopted from our program but recently returned for the reason described below.
Adoption Fee: $ 200
Breed: Pit Bull
Sex: Male
Age: 2-4 yrs
Weight: 45-55 lbs
Health Condition:
Gizmo has gained much needed weight and looks a ton better than the first time we saw him. Other than residual parasites that we are currently treating, he is healthy and ready for adoption.
Gizmo was adopted only a few days after arriving in our program last fall. He was returned a few months later for breaking out of his crate when home alone. While we don't have a means to verify this information until he is moved to a foster home, we did notice that Gizmo has soft stool, which could explain why he was trying to get free.
We urge our adopters to always have a fecal exam done at their vet after adopting a homeless dog, even though all the dogs in our program are dewormed on intake. If they were infested with parasites before their rescue, it could take a few treatments to get rid of them all. A dog that has intestinal issues will likely have behavior problems associated with the discomfort.
To help Gizmo cope with his current condition while he is under treatment for intestinal worms, we are temporarily giving him a mild anti-anxiety medication. We will update his bio as he gets better.
Physical Description:
Gizmo aka 'short stuff' is smaller than average for a male and he has THE cutest underbite! This blue and white little clown is too adorable for words.
Current Living Situation:
Gizmo is adjusting better than we expected to life at MPR shelter. We figured he would be heartbroken after losing his home, but not at all. He's keeping his chin up like a little trooper. Gizmo is still dealing with some digestive issues but is very good about using his doggy-door to do his business in his outside run if needed.
Personality:
A happy little clown, outgoing and always in a good mood. Gizmo likes to play and goof around but he's also very easy-going. He has a normal energy level for a dog his age and a well-balanced disposition.
Behavior with people:
Friendly and enjoyable. He was a bit sensitive when we first met him but seems to have developed more trust in people since then. He likes human company now and loves to make new friends.
Behavior with children:
We've been told that Gizmo did well with children but we haven't personally seen him around kids. He's giving us no reason to believe he would not do well in a home with older children. He does jump up on people when greeting them but we are working on teaching him this is not acceptable behavior.
Behavior with other dogs:
He came in with a similar dog and he might have been around smaller dogs during his brief adoption but not since being with us.
Behavior with other animals:

Even if you can’t adopt this sweetheart, you can still help by donating for their care.
