G. I. Joe
G.I. Joe is a line of action figures and American military science fiction action films.
Background Info:
We have no clue how a stunning dog like this ended up as a stray or why he was never claimed by his owners. We can only guess that someone gave up on him due to the costly injury he suffered, but we don't have the real story behind his abandonment. We also don't have any info regarding his background and upbringing.
Adoption Fee: $150
Breed: Pit Bull Mix
Sex: Male
Age: 1-3 yrs
Weight: 65-75 lbs
Health Condition:
While at the city pound G.I. Joe was diagnosed with a fractured hip from a previous injury. MPR received a plea to help him and we immediately bailed out the charming boy, transferred him to foster care and raised some of the funds needed for the surgical procedure. GI Joe underwent FHO surgery in March and his recovery has been a success. He is now back on his feet, literally, and very grateful to no longer live in pain
Even though we had not raised the total amount needed for the procedure, we decided to not wait any longer. If you cant adopt this handsome boy but still want to help him, its not too late. Please donate generously for his medical care.
G.I. Joe sends a ton of slobbery kisses to his supporters. 🐶😋💦❤️
As for his status, as of may 2023 GI Joe is healthy, happy and ready for adoption!
Physical Description:
This handsome fella has exquisite merle color markings and an incredible conformation. The dog is absolutely stunning! He turns heads everywhere he goes and people are just amazed by his remarkable beauty. He's one of the most beautiful dog we've had in our program in recent years. Those pictures dont do him justice. He's amazing looking in person.
Current Living Situation:
G.I. Joe is fostered in a home with two adults and a 3-year-old pit bull mix female. Introduction between the dogs is in process. His foster parents report that G.I. Joe had no issues making himself feel right at home.
His foster home is located in a first floor apartment where he has access to a courtyard for potty breaks. There are several areas to walk him in and around the complex.
Joe is crated overnight and when foster parents are at work. Lunch time is is favorite because he gets an hour break when one of them comes home for lunch to play.
Joe enjoys walks and is very curious about the world. It all seems new to him as if he had never been exposed to much in his prior home. He is now discovering many new stimuli such as city noises, traffic, sirens, etc. He takes it all in stride, although he's still unsure of many things. Overall he seems to enjoy his West Plaza life.
Personality:
He has a medium level of energy. When he gets a small burst of energy, afterward he is ready for snuggles and hearty nap. This boy loves his toys and can entertain himself with them when his people are busy, but he sure loves getting attention.
Joe likes to flip over on his back to offer you his belly for rubs, or sometimes he just needs to rest his huge head in your hands. Occasionally he sleeps with his tongue out while snoring away - such a precious silly boy!
Behavior with people:
G.I. Joe takes a few minutes to warm up to strangers, but he is very much all in once comfortable. He is food/treat motivated and strives to please. We do believe that he has a protective personality and will require diligent socialization and responsible ownership. Joe is learning to trust as we move forward with his training and foster environment, but he remains guarded when meeting new people. That is, until they get the treats out!
With his loved-ones, Joe is a big lovebug, even a little needy for attention sometimes. He will follow you throughout the home and he's always curious about what you are doing. He does seem to gravitate to the man in his foster home, but gets along wonderfully with foster mom as well.
Behavior with children:
Unknown. G.I. Joe hasn't met any children since being in our program. We do believe this gorgeous boy needs a home with adults only. He might not have received proper handling in his previous home and he requires mature supervision now.
Behavior with other dogs:
Joe is learning to share a home with another dog and the relationship is progressing well. While he is ready to be her best friend forever, the resident dog needs time to warm up to the big goofball. He is taking corrections from her and learning to read her cues, but occasionally needs a time out when he becomes too pushy.
We believe G.I. Joe could share a home with the right female, but we will not place him with another male.
Behavior with other animals:
Joe alerts his foster family when there is a rabbit in the courtyard, but he can be redirected with treats if needed. His behavior with cats is unknown.
Training:
Foster parents are currently working with G.I. Joe to become fully house broken from his unhealthy previous environment. He is very treat motivated and is learning basic commands like, "sit", "look," and "kennel." We use positive reinforcement to guide him and he is very receptive when being redirected with a treat.
Best Attributes:
G.I. Joe is a massive snuggler. He can curl up with you for hours and is just happy to get some love. He'll get so comfortable during his naps that he'll soon be snoring with his tongue out. Joe longs to be loved and he returns every bit of that affection right back to his humans. He takes his meds like a champ, behaves fantastically on car rides, and doesn't put up a fight during bath time. We believe this dog has the potential to be a wonderful companion in the right, responsible home.
