Isabella Swan is a character and protagonist of the Twilight novel series. In the books, Bella is described as kind of shy, very clumsy, nice and quirky. She is also smart, stubborn, loyal, and loving.

Background Info:

Bella and her companion Edward were found as strays and taken to the local pound. They were in bad condition, physically and mentally, and quite dejected at the time. Their situation was brought to MPR and we took on the challenge to turn their lives around.

Health Condition:

Within just a couple weeks of good care, Bella has blossomed into the prettiest little princess. Her coat is now shinny and healthy and she has reached a good weight. She is now ready for adoption.

Physical Description:

She's a beauty. Great conformation, with a standard weight and beautiful blue coat. Her ears are cropped. Her friendly eyes are easy to read.

Living Situation:

Bella is discovering what the good life is all about at MPR's shelter and loving every minute of it. She has been doing wonderful for a dog who obviously left a difficult situation behind.

She keeps her kennel clean and waits for her turn in the yard to potty. She is not destructive of her bedding, although she likes to rearrange her blankets to fit her decorating style.

Bella is calm and patient in her kennel and non reactive towards other dogs.

While Bella and Edward came together as a pair, and they very much love each other, they are currently in the "New Moon" phase of their relationship (Twilight fans will get the pun :-) - Indeed, we have decided to separate them for the time being, as each of them need individual attention in order to address some of their quirks. We are not ruling-out placing them together in the right home, but as of now, they are doing better when spending one-on-one time with our volunteers.

Bella has a bit of a dual personality. She can be timid and insecure one minute and a funny, outgoing little clown the next. When she's out with Edward, she is much braver, as if she knows her big brother will have her back. She tends to be nippy and pushy, even turning into a pestering little sister towards Edward. Correcting her scares "him" and affects our ability to gain his trust, as he is a lot more scared of people than she is.

On her own, Bella is friendly and eager to connect with people in a more positive way. She does have quite a few quirks we're working on but is improving rapidly. The television for example, was a big, scary monster talking from the wall. We're over it now. Still, she needs a ton of socialization in order to realize that the world is not so scary when you are well-taken care of.

Bella's level of energy is right in the middle. She loves a few good rounds of zoomies in the yard but is also very content to just sit on someone's lap for petting and kisses.

We believe this sweetie was born a good dog but life threw her some lemons. She's learning to make lemonade now.

Behavior with people:

Slightly cautious at first but she is so eager to make friends. It's obvious that she loves people but must have met some shady individuals in the past. She is extremely relieved when she realizes all the people she meets these days want to love her as much as she wants to love them. Bella is definitely leaving her sad past behind and loving her new positive interaction with humans.

Bella can occasionally get nippy, but usually only if she is out with Edward. It seems to be a combination of overcoming her insecurities when he's around and trying to get all the attention to herself. She was always friendly with people but awkward when she first arrived. She has since learned to behave like a normal dog and we are very impressed with her progress. She's becoming a fun-loving, comfortable, happy, and well behaved princess.

Behavior with children:

It's still a little soon to tell if she has potential in a home with children. The nipping she does occasionally could be unpleasant for little kids. She also startles easily and needs gentle, yet confident ownership. As of now, we prefer placing her in a home with adults only, though teenagers that are experienced with dogs are not ruled-out.

Behavior with other dogs:

While she does well with Edward for the most part, she's often a pestering little sister to him. She wants to roughhouse and sometime pushes a little too far. She is responsive to corrections, especially with a spray bottle, and can be redirected.

It's possible that Bella could live with an outgoing, tolerant, and confident male but she still needs a lot of individual work to continue her emotional recovery. We believe she would do better as an only pet.

Behavior with other animals:

We are just starting a little bit of training with her. The first few weeks consisted of getting her used to being around people and a new environment. She had to learn to be comfortable inside a house and discover simple things, such as a roof above her head, a doorway, a TV, a washer & dryer, etc. Now we are teaching her basic commands; sit, lay down, place, etc.

Best Attribute:

Bella's resilience is admirable, especially her eagerness to love people. Her great balance between playfulness and affection will make her a great pet in the right home. This quirky girl has so much potential. We are thrilled to have her in our program. She's really is a doll.
